Subject: SB 246: Suspense File Hearing 8/17/06

Hello everyone,

A quick update on SB 246.  I must say that our bill seems to have "9 lives" considering the many ups and downs and reincarnations that this issue has seen.  It's been quite a journey since we started with a phone call from Telly Young nearly eight months ago!  Let's continue to hope for the best and put all our current efforts into the immediate task of getting the bill voted out of Assembly Appropriations suspense file next week.

The suspense file is scheduled to be heard next Thursday, August 17th.  I urge everyone to please call and fax letters of support before then asking the committee to vote "yes" on Thursday.  You may want to pull from the fiscal-related talking points that I am again attaching for your use, along with the contact list.  You may also want to read the Assembly Appropriations analysis that determined the bill's placement in the suspense file - click here to go to that document.

The good news from Sacramento is that both the Appropriations Chair (Judy Chu) and Vice-Chair (Sharon Runner - also our co-author) voiced their support for the measure in committee, even though it was going on suspense.  Consider thanking both Assemblymembers for their continued support in your calls and letters.

Thanks for your help!

-Andrea
