Subject: SB 246 passes Assembly Health!

Good morning everyone,

Jennifer and I are happy to announce that SB 246 passed the Assembly Health Committee yesterday with a unanimous vote!

Assemblymembers Chan, Aghazarian, Berg, Mullin, Jones, Lieu, Montanez, Nakanishi, Negrete McLeod, Richman, Ridley-Thomas, and Strickland were all "ayes" (12-0).

During our trip to Sacramento yesterday, we attended the hearing and visited all of the Assemblymembers' offices on the Appropriations Committee, where the bill will be headed next.  All the legislative offices continue to be supportive of the bill in the scope of "policy", however some have expressed the need for more fiscal information when they go to vote in Appropriations.

We are working with Sheree and Senator Figueroa's office to develop appropriate messaging strategies for this next step.  The legislature will have summer recess for the month of July and reconvene on August 7th.  The deadline for fiscal committees to hear bills is August 18th, so our bill will be set for hearing sometime during those two weeks.

PAC/LAC is excited to have a summer intern, Anya Gutman, who is an MPH student at the UCLA School of Public Health.  Anya will be contacting you during the next month with action alerts geared towards Assembly Appropriations.  She will give you information about scheduling district office visits, making phone calls, and writing letters to the members of this committee.

Thanks as always for your support!

-Andrea and Jennifer
