Subject: SB 1785 - Need for NURSE and MOM advocates

Hello everyone,

Thanks so much for attending our advocacy event last week, focusing on Senate Bill 1785 (Figueroa): Human Milk.

The bill is set to be heard in the Senate Health committee next Wednesday, April 19th, and we have just received a last minute request from Sheree Kruckenberg, of the CA Hospital Association, for a nurse and mother to give testimony at the hearing in support of the bill.  You would be asked to speak for a maximum of two minutes, and Sheree would assist you in writing your speech.  The hearing is at 1:30 pm, however Sheree would like to have lunch with whoever volunteers to speak, and therefore you would need to be in Sacramento no later than 11 am that day.

This is a fantastic opportunity to truly make a difference in the legislative process.  I highly encourage everyone to consider whether you can participate in this capacity.  Please also think of any new mothers you know who may be willing to accompany you, or who you could pass this information on to.  I am confident that you are all now highly trained advocates who would be successful in this task!

If you are interested, please contact me, Jennifer Taylor, or Ellen Silver by e-mail as soon as possible (the hearing is Wednesday) -- or by phone first thing Monday morning (818-788-6850), so we can discuss the logistics and make arrangements.  You may also contact Sheree directly, at skruckenberg@calhealth.org, or 916-552-7576.

Don't forget to call and fax the Senate Health Committee next week to ask them to support this bill.

Thanks!

-Andrea
